COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 13-ranked Missouri defended its home field Wednesday, topping SIUE 4-1 at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Kaylynn Salyars powered the SIUE offense with two hits, both of which were doubles. Salyars doubled home
Lauryn Yslava in the second inning. Yslava had drawn a one-out walk and scored from first base.
"I was happy to see Salyars hit the ball well today," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden.
In what felt more like a pitcher's duel, Lilly Whitten outdueled SIUE's
Sydney Baalman for Whitten's fifth win of the season.
"I thought Sydney pitched well," added Sorden. Baalman gave up just six hits to the Tigers and struck out three while yielding just one walk.
Taylor Pannell recorded a save for Missouri, tossing a scoreless seventh inning. Missouri improved to 34-11.
"I thought we played well. We competed well and hit the ball hard. They made some outstanding plays."
SIUE, 14-27, now returns home at Cougar Field for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Southern Indiana. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. A single game Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m. start.
