OVC TOURNAMENT
SIUE earned the No. 2 seed in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships with a 5-1 record in league play. That includes a 7-0 sweep over Western Illinois this past weekend.
OPPONENTS
All seven OVC schools compete in the league championship. As the No. 2 seed, SIUE faces seventh-seeded Western Illinois in its first-round match. The winner of that contest faces the winner of the No. 3 Southern Indiana vs. No. 6 Eastern Illinois in a 2 p.m. match Saturday. The championship match is set for Sunday at noon.
CHAMPIONSHIP RECORD
The Cougars are 5-4 all-time in six appearances at the OVC Tournament. The runner-up last season, SIUE won OVC titles in 2016 and 2017.
CHAMPIONSHIP OPPONENTS
This is the first time SIUE faces Western Illinois in the OVC Tournament as it also is the first year the Leathernecks are competing in the OVC. Western Illinois is the sixth different opponent SIUE will have met in the OVC Tournament. The other five are (with records): Eastern Illinois (2-1), Eastern Kentucky (2-0), Murray State (0-1), Southeast Missouri (0-1) and UT Martin (1-1).
OVC AWARDS
In the 13 weeks of the regular season, SIUE has snapped up weekly OVC awards in seven of those weeks. JIll Lambrechts (Jan. 23/Feb. 20),
Jordan Schifano (Jan. 30),
Stefaniya Anikina (Feb. 27),
Amelia Gorman (Mar. 12) and
Margaux Guibal Britt (April 2) each have won Player of the Week.
YEAR SIX
Adam Albertsen is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Cougars. SIUE has increased its win total in each of the previous five years. Last season, the Cougars completed play with a 17-5 dual meet record.
