SIUE Women's Tennis Earns Return to OVC Title Match

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - SIUE women's tennis advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference championship match for the second straight season after defeating Southern Indiana 4-0 Saturday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

The second-seeded Cougars, 17-3, will face top-seeded Southeast Missouri in a noon match Sunday. SEMO defeated Tennessee State 4-0 to move into the title match.

"We played very clean in doubles which really set the tone for our play," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "Each day of this tournament we want to raise the bar and play at a high level. Tomorrow provides another opportunity to play the best tennis of our season."

Cydney Rogers and Fabiola Perez clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 against USI's Anais Negrail and Rachel McCorkle.

The Cougars took that momentum and powered past the Screaming Eagles in singles.

Paula Guillen Cerver led the Cougars from the No. 6 single slot with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Madison Windham. Margaux Guibal Britt made it 3-0 with a No. 2 single victory over McCorkle 6-0, 6-3. Amelia Gorman collected her team-leading 27th triumph with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Negrail.

USI concluded its season with an 11-11 record.
