Cougars Tripped Up at Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.- SIUE dropped a pair of close contests Saturday at Tennessee Tech.

The Cougars dropped to 15-32 overall with a 4-3 loss in the opener and a 4-0 defeat in the nightcap. The two teams play one more Ohio Valley Conference contest Sunday at noon.

"We were getting some good at bats in game one," said SIUE Head Coach Ben Sorden. "We need to get a few more clutch performances."

SIUE recorded 10 hits in the opener, including solo leadoff home runs by Lauren Yslava in the second inning and Paige Rocha in the third inning. Kaylynn Salyers also executed a squeeze play in the second inning.

Lennon Spicer earned the win in relief for the Golden Eagles. Sydney Baalman took the loss in game one for the Cougars.

In game two, Payton Wagner held SIUE to four hits for the Golden Eagles and ran her record to 8-4. SIUE pitcher Kelsey Ray yielded just five hits but took the loss.

Grace Lueke, Anna Henderson and Jenna Herron each recorded hits for the Cougars. Harley Limberger also had a hit off the bench in the fifth inning. It was her eighth pinch hit of the season.

"Harley just continues to produce off the bench," added Sorden.
