EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Omaha struck in the 69th minute and held on for a 1-0 win over SIUE in the final nonconference game for the Cougars Sunday at Korte Stadium.
SIUE fell to 2-3-2 overall. Omaha improved to 5-1-2.
The Mavs used a long throw in to create its scoring chance in the second half. The throw came to Abdi Adan who slid a pass to his right at the top of the box for Theo Klein who hit a low shot to the far post for the game's only score.
Omaha outshot SIUE 14-5, which included a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Mavs had shots hit the post and the crossbar in the first half.
Nathanael Salah made two saves for his second shutout of the year for Omaha. Rob Gjelaj made four saves for SIUE.
Stephan Moreira led SIUE with two shots on goal. Pavel Dashin and Jacob Bilyeu each had a single shot on goal.
The Cougars continue a season-long five game home stand with the start of Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday at SIUE. The Cougars will face Lindenwood in a 7 p.m. game at Korte Stadium
