EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE fought hard against Lindenwood, but were defeated with a final score of 73-59.
The Cougars fall to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in OVC play. The Lions improve to 7-6 and 3-1 in OVC play.
Jaiden Bryant had a strong performance against the Lions with 10 points connecting on 62 percent (5-8) of her shots from the field. She also had eight rebounds, a new season single-game high, and two assists.
KK Rodriguez led the team with 17 points connecting on 75 percent (6-8) of her shots from the field, with 3-8 of them being from the three-point range. She also contributed four steals.
Macy Silvey followed with 12 points, and two rebounds.
Ellie Brueggemann had the first points for Lindenwood, helping to push the Lions to a 15-point lead, with 4:02 left to play.
KK Rodriguez hit her first three-pointer of the game with 3:21 left in the first quarter, to help narrow the lead,
Jaiden Bryant followed with a last second layup at the end of the first quarter bringing the Lions to an eight-point lead.
The Cougars found their rhythm in the second quarter, after a three-pointer from
Macy Silvey with 8:23 left in play.
Kendal George hit two threes that pushed SIUE into the lead, before Lindenwood's Gracy Wernli tied the game up at 29-29 with 3:31 left in the second quarter.
Silvey banked her second three of the game evening the score at 34 with 54 seconds left in the first half, but Bruggemann responded quickly with a three pushing the Lions into the lead 37-34 before halftime.
After the break, the Lions took an early 11-point lead, when
Jaiden Bryant made a layup followed by a three-pointer from
Molly Sheehan with 4:26 to go in the third.
SIUE lost momentum in the fourth quarter when Lindenwood took a 16-point lead, their largest in the game, with 3:10 left of play. The Cougars responded with an eight-point run started by a layup from Bryant.
