EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling begins the home dual meet schedule Saturday with a match against Northwestern at First Community Arena.
The opening whistle is set for 5 p.m. It is the first dual match of the season for both teams.
Four nationally-ranked wrestlers (via Flowrestling) are expected to compete. Northwestern has three with Dedrick Navarro (No. 31/125), Sean Spidle (No. 16/133) and Sam Cartella (No. 30/149).
The match at 149 pounds has the significance of two ranked wrestlers as SIUE counters with No. 18-ranked Caleb Tyus.
The Cougars are coming off two tournaments to open the 2025-26 season. SIUE finished third at the Clairon Open and fourth at the Cyclone Invitational. 165-pounder Tavius Hosley recorded a team-leading seven wins. The Cougars had six wins each from Marcel Lopez (133), Deron Pulliam (184) and Bryson Buhk (285).
