CLARION, Penn. – SIUE wrestling started the 2025-26 season a high note, placing third overall as a team at Sunday's Clarion Open.
The Cougars finished the day with 117.5 points. Ohio State won the tournament with 236 points followed by Cornell with 151. Air Force was SIUE's nearest competitor with 106.5 points.
Nine SIUE wrestlers walked away with podium finishes. Caleb Tyus, ranked No. 1 among Mid-American Conference wrestlers at 149 pounds, was SIUE's top place winner in third place. He defeated Ohio State's Ethan Stiles in the third-place match 10-4.
Alec Peralta (141) and Dominic Lopez (174) took fourth place in their respective weight classes. 
SIUE's other top finishers included Marcel Lopez (5th/133), Danny Martinez (141/5th), Caleb Neal (174/5th), Deron Pulliam (184/6th), Myron Mendez (197/6th), and Bryson Buhk (285/6th).
The Cougars now move on to the Cyclone Invitational next Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
