AMES, Iowa – Marcel Lopez led a group of 10 SIUE wrestlers who finished in the top five Saturday at the Cyclone Invitational.
Competing at Hilton Coliseum, Marcel Lopez place second at 133 pounds. He defeated Utah Valley's Jake Castagneto and Iowa State's Garrett Grice before dropping the championship match to top-seeded Zan Fugitt of Wisconsin.
As a team, SIUE placed fourth with 101.5 points. Iowa State won the five-team tournament with 226.5 points followed by Wisconsin (182), Utah Valley (111), SIUE and California Baptist (81).
Brock Woodcock collected third place at 165 pounds. SIUE's Alec Peralta (141), Hayden Whidden (157), Dominic Lopez (174), Deron Pulliam (184) and Nick Nosler (197) all finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
Tavius Hosley (165), Caleb Neal (174) and Bryson Buhk (285) fought back from opening-round losses to finish fifth overall.
SIUE welcomes Northwestern for its home opener next Saturday. Match time is 5 p.m. at First Community Arena.
