EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Redshirt Senior
Caleb Tyus (Bethalto, Ill.) from men's wrestling has received Prairie Farms Cougar of the Week Honors after his performance at the Cougar Clash (Dec.7).
Tyus won his second Cougar Clash title and was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week.
Tyus won the 149-pound division after winning it in 2022. He improved to 11-1 this season with four straight wins, including an 8-1 victory in the championship match over Oklahoma Sate Casey Swiderski. Tyus recorded a near fall in the second period after his No. 11- ranked opponent (FloWrestling) chose down to start the period.
His win over Swiderski, a returning All-American, was the second time Tyus has defeated a ranked opponent. This pushes him to No. 7 nationally by The Open Mat.
The Prairie Farms Cougar of the Week Honors an SIUE student-athlete who demonstrated excellence in competition.
