EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE was unable to clinch a win in their second matchup against Tennessee State, falling 77-58.
The Cougars now hold a 4-21 overall record and a 2-14 record in OVC play, while the Tigers improve 8-18 overall and 4-12 in OVC play.
The Cougars were led by
KK Rodriguez and
Brianna Wooldridge, who combined for 32 points against Tennessee State.
Rodriguez led with 17 points, going 6-6 from the line and 3-6 from three-point range. She also recorded nine rebounds and four assists. Wooldridge had 15 points, going 7-9 from the field, and contributed four rebounds.
TSU took an early lead in the first quarter until
Macy Silvey hit a three-pointer, pushing the cougars ahead 14-13 with 1:13 left to play.
In the second quarter, the Tigers regained the lead after Kiki Roberts hit a jumper, sparking a 6-0 run.
KK Rodriguez ended a scoring drought for the Cougars hitting back-to-back three-pointers with 5:27 remaining.
Wooldridge found a layup that put the Cougars ahead 24-22 with 4:23 left in the second quarter.
TSU regained the lead before the break after Roberts made a layup in the last second, giving the Tigers a 30-28 advantage.
TSU took a 19-point lead in the final quarter, their largest of the game, after Lyric Cole made a layup in the final .37 seconds.
As a team, the Cougars had 14 points off the bench, 22 points in the paint and 11 points off a fast break and were able to tie the score three times.
