KANSAS CITY, Mo. – SIUE softball's Kiana Villa and Emma Henderson combined for a three-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader at Kansas City Thursday. The Cougars won game two 8-0 in six innings after dropping game one 3-2.
Villa threw the first four innings of game two against the Roos while Henderson tossed the final two innings. Villa improved to 3-0 for the season.
SIUE, 12-10, collected nine hits in the nightcap and took advantage of four Kansas City errors. The Cougars scored in five of six innings.
Lauren Yslava led the Cougars with two hits and the lone RBI in the game. It was Yslava's 10th multi-hit game of the season. Raegan Duncan and Danielle Shuey both hit doubles in the game.
Kansas City, 3-16, led game one 2-0 before SIUE tied up in contest in the top of the seventh. Kansas City pitcher Riley Bebb nearly had the game taken away when she allowed SIUE baserunners Duncan and Juztyne Torres to score on a wild pitch.
The Roos backed up Bebb by scoring in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Grace Batdorf.
The Cougars now return home for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend against Tennessee Tech. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon with a third game set for Sunday at noon.
