EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis improved to 2-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play Sunday with a 6-1 triumph over visiting Southern Indiana.
SIUE, 12-3 overall, grabbed the doubles point early at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center. SIUE's Amelia Gorman and Stefaniya Anikina overpowered Sofia Davidoff and Antonia Ferrarini 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Chloe Koons and Paige Duncan matched their teammates with a No. 3 doubles win of 6-0 over USI's Abby Myers and Khandice Thomas
The Cougars collected five singles matches with Anikina starting the charge at No. 4 singles. Her 6-0, 6-1 win over Rylie Wilkinson put the Cougars ahead for good after SIUE yielded at No. 6 singles
Margaux Guibal Britt was strong at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Davidoff. Chloe Koons provided the clinching team point at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Elle Dewees. Amelia Gorman continued the string of straight sets victories with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Ferrarini.
Payton Tomicheck closed out the match with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-2 win over Madison Windham.
Southern Indiana dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-2 in the OVC.
SIUE next plays Western Illinois in an OVC dual match. The Cougars are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start next Saturday.
