EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball dropped its first Ohio Valley Conference series of the season Saturday, falling in the rubber game of the series against Lindenwood 1-0 at Cougar Field.
SIUE fell to 18-14 overall and 9-3 in the OVC. Lindenwood evened its OVC record to 6-6 and are 15-16 overall.
Lindenwood hurler Avery Wapp outdueled SIUE pitcher Emma Henderson in an epic pitcher's duel. Wapp earned her sixth win of the season with 11 strikeouts. Henderson allowed just six hits and left eight Lindenwood runners stranded.
The Lions scored the game's only run in the third inning on an RBI single by Irelynn West.
SIUE picked up hits from Kaylynn Salyars, Raegan Duncan and Madison Kearns.
The Cougars return to action Wednesday in a return nonconference game against Saint Louis at Cougar Field. Game time is 6 p.m.
