EVANSVILLE, Ind. – SIUE split the double header with Southern Indiana. The Cougars dominated in game one winning 8-0 in five innings but fell 0-8 in game two against the Screaming Eagles.
The Cougars are now 20-15 overall and 10-4 in OVC, while USI is 10-18 overall and 7-6 in OVC.
Game one started with Lauren Yslava and
Kaylynn Salyars walking.
Emma Henderson hit a home run to right field, giving the Cougars the early lead (3-0).
In the third inning,
Danielle Shuey singled up the middle. Saylars reached on a throwing error by the pitcher off a sacrifice bunt and advanced to second on the throw, brining Shuey in (4-0).
The Cougars solidified their win in the fourth inning. Piper Mongomery started with a single to right center,
Carle Bachman came in to pinch run. Reagan Duncan singled off a bunt to the pitcher moving Bachman to second.
Juztyne Torres reached on a throwing error and advanced to second while Duncan moved to third and Bachman score (4-0).
Kaylin Fahy made it to second off a throwing error by USI's third baseman, while Torres advanced to third and Duncan scored (5-0).
Yslava came in to single up the middle bringing in Torres making the score 6-0.
Emma Henderson also singled up the middle bringing in both Yslava and Fahy for the 8-0 win.
Avery Arwood pitched all five innings for SIUE letting up only two hits one walk and striking out eight. Arwood is now 7-6 on the season.
For game two
McKayla Anderson (4-5) worked one inning letting up three hits, four runs and three errors.
Reese Ray relieved Anderson and pitched for three innings.
Kylie Witthaus pitched for USI shut out the Cougars in game two, improving to 4-6 on the season.
Up next, SIUE travels to Peoria, Ill. for a 5 p.m. contest at Bradley Tuesday night.
