Late Runs Lift Mizzou over SIUE Baseball

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Mizzou scored three times in the top of the ninth, snapping an 8-8 tie and the Tigers held on to beat SIUE 11-8 Tuesday night in nonconference baseball at Roy E. Lee Field.

The Cougars fell to 13-18 overall. Mizzou improved to 12-20.

In the ninth, Cayden Nicoletto hit a two-run home run and Chris Patterson added an RBI triple in the ninth as the Tigers rallied against SIUE reliever Kyle Rossy (0-1). Mizzou's comeback came after the Cougars had fought back to tie the game the previous half inning.

Mizzou led 8-5 going into the seventh. The Cougars took advantage of four errors to add a run in the seventh and then scored twice more in the eighth. Kyle Ratliff's pinch hit tied the score 8-8.

Pierre Seals opened the scoring with a first-inning two-run home run to put the Tigers up early. SIUE answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of its own. Mack Mitchell singled and later scored on a Missouri error. Michael Siemer doubled to drive in the second run.

After two more runs from Mizzou in the second inning, SIUE answered again. The Cougars took the lead with three runs in the inning, scoring twice on an error and getting an RBI hit from Ryan Niedzwiedz to lead 5-4.

The Tigers scored twice in the third and then put up a fourth consecutive two-run inning in the fourth to lead 8-5.

Gabriel Nutter started for the Cougars and allowed six runs, four earned on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two. Andrew Ressler allowed two unearned runs in an inning of work. Kieran Bailey (1 1/3 innings), Brennen Grams (1 inning) and Brady Coon (2 innings) all turned in scoreless outings in relief for SIUE.

Kadden Drew (3-1) threw four innings, allowing three unearned runs to earn the win for Missouri. Wil Libbert started and threw five innings. He allowed five runs, just one earned, on six hits He struck out five.

The Tigers overcame eight errors in the game and won on the road for the first time this season.

Mitchell, Niedzwiedz and Sean Kang and Joshua Heyder each had two hits for the Cougars.

SIUE returns to Ohio Valley Conference play with a three-game series at Lindenwood beginning Friday.
