EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Four SIUE baseball student-athletes were named Academic All-District Tuesday by College Sports Communicators, which recognizes student-athletes for their performance in the field and in the classroom.

Kyle Athmer, Daniel Gierer, Joseph Martin and Spencer Stearns were selected to the All-District teams. Individuals must have achieved at least a 3.500 grade point average and players must have appeared in 90 percent of the team's games. Pitchers must have appeared in 17 games or pitched at least 35 innings.

Athmer, a civil engineering major, has a 3.64 GPA and made 17 appearances for the Cougars on the mound this season. He made two starts was 3-1 with a save and struck out 30 hitters. Athmer was honored as an All-District performer last season as well.

Gierer, a biology medical science major, has a 3.91 GPA. He led the team in hitting with a .355 average, which ranked third in the Ohio Valley Conference. He was fourth in the league with 22 stolen bases.

Martin, an accounting major, holds a 3.72 GPA. He was fourth on the team with 19 appearances on the mound. He finished the year 4-0 with 30 strikeouts in 27.2 innings.

Stearns, a mechanical engineering major has a perfect 4.00 GPA. He made 13 starts and was second on the team with 62 strikeouts. He ranked second in the OVC with 9.58 strikeouts per nine innings.
