FALL FOOD DRIVE: SIUE Athletics is hosting the Fall Food Drive in conjunction with Homecoming week. All non-perishable food donations given at the game towards SIUE's Cougar Cupboard will receive a ticket voucher that may be used at any other SIUE home event through the end of 2025. Any sport, any date.
LAST TIME: SIUE dropped a 2-1 decision at Omaha Sunday. It was the sixth 2-1 game of the season for the Cougars.
THIS WEEK: The Cougars open Ohio Valley Conference play with Lindenwood in the annual Homecoming game.Â
HOMECOMING: SIUE has won its last two Homecoming games and since returning to Division I play in 2008, the Cougars are 14-2 in the annual Homecoming game.Â
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Evan Howard was named as the OVC Player of the Week 9/2 after he scored in each of SIUE's games in Colorado.
RANK AND FILE: SIUE has faced two ranked opponents so far this season, dropping 2-1 games on the road at No. 21 Denver and No. 16 Saint Louis.
THE SERIES: Tonight marks the sixth meeting between the Cougars and Lions, all of which have come since Lindenwood made the transition to Division I play. Four of the six meetings have come in Edwardsville, where the Cougars are 3-0-1 in the series.
SCORING:
Evan Howard is tied for the OVC lead with five goals. SIUE lost its seven top scorers and eight of the top 10 after last season. The Cougars opened the season with just four goal scorers from a season ago representing six of 30 goals (20 percent) scored in 2024. Returners account for just 18 percent (15 of 85) of total points scored in 2024.
GOT 'EM CORNERED: SIUE leads the OVC and ranks 61st in the NCAA in corner kicks per game at 5.29.
AT THE HELM: Two-time OVC Coach of the Year
Cale Wassermann is in his seventh season in charge of the Cougars, and his 12th overall as a head coach. He has a record of 53-41-14 (.556) in six full seasons at SIUE. He is third all-time in wins at SIUE.Â
OWNING THE OVC: In two seasons since the OVC began men's soccer, the Cougars have just one loss to Conference opponents and sport a 17-1-2 record in regular season games and a 4-0 mark in the OVC Tournament.
