MARTIN, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference's stingiest defenses Thursday with UT Martin prevailing 65-59 over SIUE men's basketball at Skyhawk Arena.
The Cougars dipped to 3-4 in the OVC and 10-8 overall. UT Martin won its sixth consecutive game and improved to 6-1 in the OVC and 14-4 overall.
Neither team shot better than 40 percent for the game. SIUE connected on 39 percent (24-62) of its shots for the game, while UTM landed 38 percent (20-53).
Darrion Baker led four Cougars in double figures with 15 points. Arnas Sakenis added 12, CJ Hall scored 11 and Tyler King finished with 10. He was 2-5 from three-point range. Baker and Hall each had a three-pointer and SIUE was 4-23 from long range for the game.
SIUE trailed 28-27 at halftime and UT Martin pushed its lead out to as many as 11 in the second half when Filip Radakovic drained a three-pointer to make it 56-45 with 4:46 to play. Radakovic led UT Martin with16 points. Andrija Bukumirovic added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Matas Deniusas also finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
SIUE trimmed the lead back to four on two occasions, the last being on a Sakenis putback with 13 seconds to play.
UT Martin was 4-5 from the free throw line to end the game. The Skyhawks finished 17-26 from the free throw for the game.
UT Martin outrebounded SIUE 47-34 and scored 15 second-chance points.
SIUE stays on the road to face Southeast Missouri Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Tipoff is set for 3:45 p.m.
