EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis captured its first home event of the spring season Saturday, downing Northern Iowa 4-0 at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
The Cougars improved to 3-0 to start the season while Northern Iowa dropped to 1-2.
SIUE used the momentum of winning doubles to carry through the match.
SIUE's Jessica Li and Elena Palioura overpowered Yangjiaxin Li and Andrea Noa Galin 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Maya Bowe and Cydney Rogers rallied past Kayla Santosa and Abbie Peterson 6-3.
The momentum continued in singles as SIUE won the first set on all five courts. The teams agreed to finish when the fourth team point was scored.
Chloe Koons paced the Cougars at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Santosa. Jessica Li followed up for SIUE at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Yangjiaxin Li. Margaux Guibal Britt closed out the match for SIUE, defeating Andjela Raznatovic 6-1, 6-3.
Next up for the Cougars is a road trip to Missouri at 3 p.m. next Saturday.
