BUFFALO, N.Y. – SIUE wrestling won the first four consecutive matches of Friday's Mid-American Conference dual and went on to a decisive 24-9 victory over Buffalo.
SIUE improved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the MAC. The Cougars' win sets up the a key match at Northern Illinois next Friday in DeKalb, Illinois. The winner of that match will be the MAC West Division champion.
This is the first time the Cougars have collected double-digit wins since the 1985-86 when SIUE won its third consecutive NCAA Division II Championship.
Buffalo dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the MAC.
The Cougars leaped off to a great start against the Bulls with wins by Drew Davis, Marcel Lopez, Ben Lunn and Caleb Tyus. Lunn earned a major decision at 141 pounds with an 18-4 victory over Tyler Roark.
SIUE also would pick up a technical fall win from Brock Woodcock at 165 pounds over Brad Unger and a major decision from Deron Pulliam at 184 pounds. Nick Nosler added a shutot 5-0 win over Connor Jacobs at 197 pounds.
