YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Nicholls scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday and upended SIUE softball 4-3 in the final game of the Mardia Gras Mambo.
SIUE now holds a 2-8 record overall. Nicholls improved to 6-3.
The Cougars went into extra innings tied 2-2 and took the lead in the top of the eighth. Abby Harvell delivered a ground-rule double down the right field line, which brought home Ashley Duran from third base.
Nicholls countered with a game-ending two-run home run by Erin Krause.
Avery Arwood took the loss for the Cougars and is 0-1 after throwing the final two innings. Molly Yoo grabbed the win after throwing the final four innings for Nicholls.
SIUE outhit Nicholls 9-6, including Haley Strain's first career home run in the second inning.
The Cougars next head to the Lion Classic in Commerce, Texas, where they will place St. Thomas (Minn.), East Texas A&M, Southern and North Texas (twice).
