THE GREAT OUTDOORS
SIUE and Saint Louis are taking advantage of the warmer temperatures Friday by competing outdoors at the SIUE tennis courts. This is the first time these two teams have met to play in a dual match outdoors since 2010 when they faced off at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
The SIUE women's tennis duo of Jessica Li and Elena Palioura were named the Ohio Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week. Li, of Auckland, New Zealand, and Palioura, of Thessaloniki, Greece, finished 1-0 this past weekend. The duo were tied 6-6 when doubles play ended against Marquette. The Cougars wasted little time in a 6-0 doubles rout on Sunday over Chicago State's Mackenzie King and Nikita Liyanage.
COUGAR LEADERS
-- Palioura is the team leader in singles wins with 12. The Cougars have four more players with wins in the double-figures range: Margaux Guibal Britt (11), Paloma Hennicaux (11), Stefaniya Anikina (10) and Chloe Koons (10).
-- SIUE is 37-19 overall in doubles matches this season, a .661 winning percentage.
HEAD COACH ADAM ALBERTSEN
Albertsen enters his eighth season at the helm of SIUE women's tennis. He holds a record of 96-46 at SIUE. He has recorded double-digit dual victories in each of the last five seasons.
NEXT UP
SIUE travels to Des Moines, Iowa, next Friday for a 10 a.m. match against the Bulldogs of Drake. It will be SIUE's final nonconference matchup before the Ohio Valley Conference season kicks off March 14th against Tennessee State. SIUE's actual final nonconference match will be March 27 against William Woods.
