EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis used a combination of quick wins and a strong comeback to defeat Saint Louis 4-1 Friday at the SIUE Tennis Courts.

The Cougars improved to 7-2 while the Billikens fell to 2-5.

SIUE grabbed the crucial doubles point early. SIUE's Jessica Li and Elena Palioura bested Elizabeth Choate and Aryn Walker 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. SIUE's Margaux Guibal Britt and Stefaniya Anikina downed Madison Hill and Emmerson White.

Cydney Rogers appeared in the singles lineup for the first time this season and made the most of her debut. She quickly dispatched Choate 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Paloma Hennicaux made it 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nicolly Ferreira at No. 4 singles.

SLU battled back with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles as White topped Guibal Britt.

The comeback of the day came from Anikina at No. 3 singles. The Cougar junior from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, found herself down 5-2 in both sets yet found a way to reel off five straight games twice to win the match 7-5, 7-5 over SLU's Hill.

SIUE now turns its attention to a road trip to Des Moines, Iowa, where the Cougars face Drake next Friday at 10 a.m.
