Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Eastern Michigan

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader with Eastern Michigan, falling 9-1 in the opener and 8-7 in the nightcap.

SIUE dropped to 4-7. Eastern Michigan improved to 4-7

After falling behind 3-0 and 5-3, SIUE came back to lead 7-5 following a four-run fourth inning in game two.

Terrick Thompson-Allen drove in a run with a single in the second inning and Chase Bloomer added an RBI-hit in the third. Ethan Willoughby drove in a run on a fielder's choice also in the third.

Ryan Niedzwiedz hit his third home run in three games in the series, a three-run shot in the fourth before Gage Franck stole home later in the inning to pick up another run.

The Eagles used two walks and two hits to score three times in the fifth to regain the lead 8-7.

Seven different players had a single hit for the Cougars in the game.

Brennen Grams (1-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in an inning of relief. He struck out two. Spencer Stearns started the game and allowed six runs, three earned, on five hits over four innings.

The Cougars managed just four hits in the opener, but got on the board first in the first inning. After a walk and a hit had runners at first and third, Chase Bloomer drove home a run with a sacrifice fly to left center field.

Eastern Michigan took the lead with two runs on two hits in the third before adding two more in the fourth inning against SIUE starter Tim Teixeira.

Teixeira worked into the fifth inning. He allowed four runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out three.

They added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings and then three more in the ninth all coming against SIUE reliever Joseph Martin. He pitched 4.2 innings. Gabriel Nutter retired the final hitter in the ninth.
