COLUMBIA, Mo. – SIUE women's tennis dropped to 3-1 for the season with a 7-0 loss against Missouri at the Green Tennis Center.
SIUE's Elena Palioura split the first two sets of her No. 2 singles match with Mary Brumfield. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Palioura rallied to a 7-6 (7-4) triumph in the second set. Brumfield would hold off Palioura in the deciding set 10-7.
The Cougars fell in all of the other singles matches after Missouri wrapped up the match-opening doubles point.
Margaux Guibal Britt was edged at No. 1 singles by Korina Roso 6-4, 6-4. Stefaniya Anikina dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match at No. 2 singles to Alex Ackman. Jessica Li was bested by Gian Octa at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2.
Missouri improved to 4-2 for the season after winning twice Saturday. The Tigers earlier defeated Saint Louis 7-0.
SIUE is home at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center next weekend. On Friday, SIUE entertains Bradley in a 2:30 p.m. match. On Sunday, SIUE faces Maryville at 11 a.m.
