BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – SIUE junior guard Tyler King (St. Louis) has been named the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week after leading SIUE to a pair of wins this past week.
King led the Cougars with a strong offensive week. He knocked down 50 percent of his shots and averaged 20.5 points in wins over Lindenwood and Little Rock. He scored 22 points Tuesday to lead the Cougars at Lindenwood. He followed that with 19 points in a road win at Little Rock Saturday.
He went 7-15 from three-point range and had just a single turnover for the week. The award is the first of King's career.
The Cougars have won three straight games and are tied for fourth in the OVC, just two games back of the top spot. They are home for the next two games, facing two teams ahead of them in the standings.
SIUE will play host to Southeast Missouri Thursday at First Community Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
