EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball dropped its home opener Tuesday to Minnesota 5-0 at Cougar Field.
SIUE dropped to 10-13 while Minnesota improved to 9-15.
The Cougars return to action Saturday for the start of a three-game series against Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a noon start. On Sunday, the two teams meet for game three at noon.
Minnesota used home runs by Scarlett Kuhn and Jae Cosgriff to defeat the Cougars.
Avery Arwood, 2-3, took the loss in the circle for the Cougars. Macy Richardson threw five innings and was credited as the winning pitcher for the Golden Gophers. She improved to 3-4.
Betsy Woodward and Jesslyn Stairs recorded hits for SIUE.
