EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE graduate student Joshua Heyder (Washington, Illinois) has been named the baseball Player of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference after leading SIUE offensively last week.
Heyder led the Cougars with six hits and a .500 average for a week in which SIUE won three of four games at home. He hit two home runs, as the Cougars hit 13 for the week. Heyder opened the week 1-4 in a win over SIUC Tuesday with a home run. He then finished the weekend series with Valparaiso 5-8 (.625) with a home run and five RBIs.
The award is the second weekly award this season for the Cougars and the first of Heyder's career.
The Cougar designated hitter is hitting .353 for the year, which ranks 16th in the OVC. He has three home runs and eight RBIs.
SIUE will travel to Illinois State for a Wednesday afternoon contest with the Redbirds.
