MARTIN, Tenn. – SIUE softball outhit UT Martin 10-8 Sunday but dropped the rubber game of the series 6-4 at Bettye Giles Field.
Raegan Duncan collected a season-high and career-tying three hits for the Cougars, which dropped to 14-20 overall and 7-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Duncan's offense was key to SIUE's four-run third inning. The Cougar sophomore doubled home Abby Harvell and Juztyne Torres and then scored on Ashley Duran's second home run of the season.
UT Martin, 21-15 overall and 9-3 in the OVC, used three-run rallies in the first and fifth innings to push past SIUE. Natalie Kreuziger was the winning pitcher and is now 5-4. Avery Arwood took the loss for SIUE and is 3-4. Payton Harris threw the final 1 1/3 innings and earned the save for the Skyhawks.
SIUE now returns home for the next four games. The Cougars face off against Saint Louis for a third time this season in a 6 p.m. contest Wednesday. The OVC schedule continues next week with a single game Friday against Southeast Missouri and a Saturday doubleheader.
