Chase Bloomer Back on Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the third time in his career, SIUE senior Chase Bloomer (Ottawa, Kansas) has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, released Wednesday by the College Baseball Foundation.

The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977-1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

This marks the second consecutive season that Bloomer has been named to the list. He also was named in his freshman year.

Bloomer is one of five OVC shortstops on the list. He joins Little Rock's Jerdy Lopez, Southeast Missouri's Brooks Kettering, Southern Indiana's Clayton Slack and Tennessee Tech's Owen Lee.

Bloomer has started all 13 games for the Cougars and is third on the team with a .292 batting average.

SIUE baseball will play a weekend series at Kansas State beginning Friday.
