ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood avoided an SIUE softball sweep Sunday with a 3-0 final at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
SIUE, which secured the series win Saturday with a doubleheader sweep, dropped to 17-24 overall and 10-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference after Sunday's play. Lindenwood evened its overall and OVC record to 20-20 and 9-9 in the league.
The Cougars were held to four hits by Betsy Woodward, Gretchen Trello, Abby Harvell and Aidyn Barrera.
Lindenwood's Samantha Roulanaitis and Ryleigh Owens combined for the win. Owens earned her second save of the season, tossing the final 2 1/3 innings.
Jolie McMinn provided the eventual game winner in just the first inning, a single that scored Anna Sanders. The Lions added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Avery Arwood took the loss for the Cougars. She fanned two and scattered 11 Lindenwood hits.
The Cougars now gear up for a five-game home stretch beginning with a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday against Kansas City. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Southern Indiana then comes to Edwardsville next Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's single game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with a Sunday doubleheader set for a noon start.
