CARBONDALE, Ill. – SIUE softball ended its nonconference schedule Wednesday with a 10-1 loss at SIU Carbondale.
The Cougars dropped to 25-26 overall and next look to the final three-game series of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season. SIUE welcomes Western Illinois to Cougar Field for a 3:30 p.m. single game Friday and a noon doubleheader Saturday. The Cougars, who have won six straight at Cougar Field heading into the weekend, will honor seniors Kaylin Fahy, Gretchen Trello and Kiana Villa after Saturday's finale.
SIUE opened the scoring in the midweek battle with a second-inning score. Trello drew a walk, was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Abby Harvell, moved to third on an infield out from Betsy Woodward and scored on a Salukis infield error off the bat of Jesslyn Stairs.
SIU Carbondale advanced to 30-15 for the season, utilizing home runs Emily Williams and Mikaela Coburn to defeat the Cougars.
The Salukis used three pitchers in the outing. Hailey Lucas was credited with the win, her ninth of the season. McKayla Anderson took the loss for the Cougars and is 2-4.
