BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – SIUE's Elena Palioura and Cydney Rogers have been selected for weekly Ohio Valley Conference women's tennis honors.
Palioura, a sophomore from Thessaloniki, Greece, was tabbed the OVC Singles Player of the Week. Rogers, a senior from Jonesboro, Arkansas, joined Palioura as the OVC Doubles Team of the Week.
As a team, SIUE swept both Lindenwood (7-0) and Southern Indiana (4-0) in OVC play.
Palioura was a key player with singles wins over Lindenwood's Megan Caffin 7-6, 1-6, 10-4 and Southern Indiana's Sofia Davidoff 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Both were at No. 2 singles.
As a No. 2 doubles team, Palioura and Rogers finished 2-0 for the week with a 6-4 win over Lindenwood's Michelle Trochez and Sofija Dunisijevic 6-4 and Southern Indiana's Anais Negrail and Rylie Wilkinson 6-1.
Next up for the SIUE women's tennis team is Senior Day Saturday when the Cougars entertain Western Illinois at the SIUE Tennis Courts. The winner of Saturday's match will claim the No. 1 seed for the upcoming OVC Championships at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
