EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – For the second time this season, SIUE junior first baseman Ryan Niedzwiedz (North Aurora, Illinois) has been selected to Baseball America's College Team of the Week.
The honor comes a day after he earned the Ohio Valley Conference baseball Player of the Week.
Niedzwiedz is only the sixth player this season from a mid-major program to earn multiple National Team of the Week honors.
Niedzwiedz powered the Cougars to a weekend series sweep on the road at Eastern Illinois.
Niedzwiedz was 8-15 (.533) during the three-game series, while hitting five home runs and driving in eight. He slugged an incredible 1.533 for the week and produced a ridiculous OPS of 2.096 over the three-game series.
Saturday, Niedzwiedz tied SIUE's single-game record with three home runs, while also setting SIUE's single-season record of 24 home runs. He followed with two more home runs in the series finale and now has six multi-homer games this season.
Niedzwiedz also was chosen to Baseball America's Team of the Week March 3.
The Cougars (30-21, 18-6 OVC) are two games up in the OVC standings and will finish the regular season with a Tuesday contest at SIU Carbondale before playing their final OVC series against UT Martin Thu.-Sat. at Roy E. Lee Field.
