EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling Head Coach Daryl Thomas announced the appointment of Colton McKiernan as an assistant coach for the Cougars.
McKiernan returns to SIUE, where he was a 2023 Mid-American Conference champion as a heavyweight. He was a two-time MAC finalist and a two-time NCAA qualifier, advancing nationally to the All-American round in 2023.
He recorded a 30-5 record his senior season and finished his collegiate career with a 91-44 record, including 22 falls, four technical falls and five major decisions.
Since competing as a Cougar, McKiernan has spent the past three seasons as the top assistant coach at Fort Hays State, a Division II member in Kansas.
At Fort Hays State, McKiernan coached five national qualifiers, one All-American and a national finalist.
In returning to SIUE, McKiernan will work with the upper weights and will focus on the Southern Illinois Regional Training Center (SIRTC). The SIRTC brings committed wrestlers from the southern Illinois region together to train and compete in national and international wrestling meets.
