EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Five SIUE baseball student-athletes were named Academic All-District® Tuesday by College Sports Communicators, which recognizes student-athletes for their performance in the field and in the classroom.

Porter Conn, Daniel Gierer, Sean Kang, Joseph Martin and Spencer Stearns were selected to the Academic All-District team.

Individuals must have achieved at least a 3.500 grade point average, and players must have appeared in 90 percent of the team's games or started in at least 66 percent. Pitchers must have appeared in 17 games or pitched at least 35 innings.

A five student-athletes helped lead SIUE to its first Ohio Valley Conference title and a program Division I record 33 wins.

Conn has a 4.00 GPA while pursuing a master's in Exercise and Sport Psychology. He was third on the team with 21 appearances in relief. He was 1-1 with a pair of saves.

Gierer has a 3.94 GPA in Biological Sciences. He appeared in all 57 games for the Cougars hitting .276 while adding 27 RBIs and a team-high 12 stolen bases.

Kang has a 3.61 GPA in Business Administration-Finance. Kang appeared in 44 games, making 41 starts behind the plate. He hit a career-high .284 while also adding career-bests with three home runs and 24 RBIs.

Martin has a 3.81 GPA in Accountancy. He led the team with 24 appearances and four wins out of the bullpen.

Stearns has a 4.00 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. He led the team with eight wins, to rank second in the OVC, and a 3.74 earned run average, which ranked sixth in the OVC.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team will be announced June 23.
