Tanner Holen joined the SIUE baseball staff as an assistant coach in August 2023 and serves as the program's Recruiting Coordinator and assists with hitting and baserunning.
Prior to coming to SIUE, Holen was on staff as an assistant at Ball State.
In 2023, Ball State won the Mid-American Conference tournament championship and appeared in its first NCAA Regional Tournament since 2006.
During his time at Ball State, Tanner’s primary responsibilities included serving as camp coordinator, developing catchers, assisting with off-campus and on-campus recruiting, and all team operations. Holen helped mentor Ball State catcher Hunter Dobbins who earned recognition on the Mid-American Conference All-Defensive Team. Holen also was responsible for all aspects of the Ball State Camps. He also worked extensively with hitting and pitching analytics, and conducting video for pitchers, catchers, and hitters. During games, Tanner was given first base coaching responsibilities and management of the bullpen.
Holen began his coaching career at Western Illinois when he joined the coaching staff in the summer of 2021. During his time at Western Illinois, Holen was responsible for hitting and catching development, recruiting, camp coordination, and creation of scouting reports. The offense in the 2022 spring increased production in doubles, triples, home runs, batting average, on-Base percentage, slugging and stolen bases. In 2022, the Leathernecks led the Summit League and ranked 15th nationally in stolen bases.
Holen earned his master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Cincinnati, where he played his final season as a grad transfer in 2021. He hit .300 and had an OPS of 1.008 while throwing out over 30 percent of base stealers that season.
Holen played two years at Kentucky where he posted a .289 average in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He played two seasons at Iowa Western, posting a .361 average in 67 games. He hit .408 during his sophomore season with the Reivers. The 2018 team finished 54-7, including a 27-0 conference record and advanced the JUCO World Series. Holem was was a Second Team All-Region selection.
Holen earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Cincinnati where he played his final graduate season. In 2021 he hit .300 with a .479 OBP, .529 SLG for an OPS of 1.008.
