Tom Brannan's biggest problem as he enters the 1986-87 season may be the abundance of guards on the squad. With nine guards listed on the 17-man pre-season roster, including three players who earned starting berths a year ago, Brannan's floor time may be limited. A good ball-handler, Brannan earned a spot on the team last year after working his way up from the junior varsity team. An intelligent player who gives the Cougars additional experience in the backcourt, Brannan saw action in 13 games last year, scoring four points against both Harris-Stowe and Lindenwood. As a prep standout at Carrollton High School, Brannan earned honorable mention All-State honors as well as being a two-time All-Conference selection, averaging more than 21 points per game. FROM COACH GRAHAM: "Tom has been with us since the ground floor. He worked his way up from the junior varsity program and made the varsity unit. He is a very solid player who is a hard worker and could fill in as back-up guard. He is also an outstanding student, maintaining an "A" average."
