Lindsay Wandrey

Lindsay Wandrey joined the SIUE golf program as an assistant coach in August 2013, coming to the Cougars after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Western Illinois University during the previous two seasons. The native of Pewaukee, Wis., also spent the summer interning with the Wisconsin PGA.

During the 2014-15 season, the Cougar women established a number of records. The team has set the scoring record in each of the last two seasons, setting a new mark of 320.7 during the 2014-15 season. The team also set new 36-hole and 54-hole totals records. Individually, Alison Gorman became the program’s first NCAA Division I medalist when she captured the title at SIU Carbondale’s Saluki Shootout. Gorman’s 36-hole total of 146 was the lowest in school history. Senior Ashton Stair (226) and freshman Madison Frerking (230) turned in the best two 54-hole totals in school history at South Dakota State’s Jackrabbit Invitational. Frerking set a new individual single-season scoring record (79.6) in her freshman season.

Off the course, five women (Frerking, Gorman, Molly Marcum, Brittney Jostes, and Stair) were honored as Scholar All-Americans by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).
SIUE scored three top-five finishes in tournaments during the 2014-2015 season. For the third straight year, the Cougars finished eighth at the OVC Championship.
On the men’s side, the Cougars turned in a pair of top-five finishes during 2014-15. SIUE finished ninth in its third appearance at the OVC Championship. Senior Mitchell Homb became the career record holder in rounds played, finishing his career at 117 rounds.

2013-14 marked Wandrey’s first season on staff for both the men’s and women’s teams. Wandrey helped guide the men’s team to a sixth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference championships. Wandrey saw freshman Jordan Peters receive recognition as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team. Peter’s average round score of 75.2 was the second best mark on the team.

Junior Mitchell Homb claimed his first-ever tournament title at SIUE’s Derek Dolenc Invitational. The team also achieved success at the Derek Dolenc Invitational, finishing second. Wandrey’s guidance helped the Cougars notch a total of 21 rounds at or under par.

Wandrey helped develop the talent of senior Taylor Cox, who lowered is average round score by two strokes, and his now 13th in program history in scoring. Cox tallied five top 20 finishes during his senior campaign.

The 2013-14 SIUE women’s golf program also had a successful season under Wandrey’s guidance. Wandrey’s efforts helped SIUE break the team season scoring average record. The Cougars broke both 18-hole and 36-hole school records at Evansville’s Charles Braun Invitational. Every returning player improved their scoring average from each season.

Along with team success, came individual success for SIUE in 2013-14. Six Cougars recorded top 10 finishes. Junior Ashton Stair recorded the best finish of the year in terms of place for the Cougars at the SIUE Invitational, where she notched a season-best round of 76. Sophomore Molly Marcum set a new 54-hole course record at the Drake Creek Invitational.

Wandrey’s 2013-14 SIUE women’s golf team finished with an annual GPA of 3.79, which is the highest in program history. All eight of the program’s student-athletes were featured on the dean’s list. The Cougars’ annual GPA was 3.68, which was the highest overall GPA of all the athletic programs.

At Western Illinois, the Leathernecks earned five top five finishes during the 2012-2013 season, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the Monterey Bay Invitational and at the Hotels at Grand Prairie event in Peoria, Ill.

During Wandrey’s first season as a graduate assistant the 2011-12 Leathernecks finished sixth in the Summit League Championships. Their opening round score of 300 was a season-low for the program.  The team finished in the top five in two other tournaments in 2011-12, including a third-place finish in their annual home invite the WIU Autumn Invitational.

Before joining the coaching staff at WIU, Wandrey competed in 75 rounds averaging 81.2 for the Leatherneck women’s golf team over four seasons.  Wandrey was the medalist at the 2010 Loyola Invitational with rounds of 74-76, the runner-up at the 2008 Western Illinois Fall Invitational, and earned three other top five finishes in her career.

In 2010-2011, Wandrey helped lead the Leathernecks to the best season in school history. The Leathernecks earned three tournament victories and three other runner-up finishes during the season. Her career best-round of 72 came at the Jackrabbit Invitational in 2011. Wandrey’s top five performance at the Summit League Championship helped the team to a runner-up finish her senior year.
