David Korn

The 2015 season will be David Korn's first as the program's Associate Head Coach.

In 2014, his first season with SIUE soccer, he served as as the co-head coach. Korn led SIUE to its first Missouri Valley Conference championship and a return to the NCAA Division I Tournament, where the Cougars earned a 1-0 win on the road at Northwestern before falling to No. 18 California.

Under Korn, SIUE seniors Matt Polster and Christian Volesky flourished in their final seasons in a Cougar uniform.

Polster was honored as the MVC's Defensive Player of the Year before being selected seventh overall by the Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Polster was the first defender chosen, and the No. 7 pick is the highest ever for an SIUE player.

Volesky led the league in scoring and was named the MVC Player of the Year. He was chosen at No. 32 by the Portland Timbers.

Korn came to SIUE after serving on the coaching staff at Wright State the previous three seasons.  He was hired as an assistant coach with the Raiders in 2011, before being promoted to associate head coach in 2012.

Wright State qualified for the Horizon League Tournament twice during Korn's time with the Raiders, including an appearance in the tournament final in 2011.  His addition to the WSU coaching staff yielded immediate results as his first year with the program was the Raiders' first winning seasons in 10 years.  Wright State's 11 wins in 2011 also marked just the third time in the previous 17 seasons that the program won 11 games or more.

Previous to his stint at Wright State, Korn was an assistant coach at the University of Denver from 2008-2010.

In Korn's three seasons with Denver, the Pioneers compiled an overall record of 24-24-10, including a 16-7-4 mark in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). During the 2010 season, Denver finished 9-7-4 overall and won the MPSF regular-season title with a record of 6-2-2. The Pioneers received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they were edged 1-0 in double overtime by UC Santa Barbara in the first round. Eight players received All-MPSF honors with two on the first team.

The 2009 season saw Denver advance to the MPSF Tournament semifinals. Five Pioneers were named All-MPSF and freshman forward Alex Tarnoczi was named the league's Newcomer of the Year. In 2008, Korn helped the team to a 10-7-2 overall mark while going 8-1-1 in MPSF play. This marked the first time in Denver's history the program had made the NCAA tournament.

Korn helped lead them to two NCAA tournament berths in his time at Denver.  The Pioneers also had three players drafted in MLS Superdraft, one in each of Korn's three seasons

Prior to Denver, Korn served as an assistant coach at Lafayette in 2007, where he helped lead the Leopards to a 10-4-6 record and a berth in the Patriot League Tournament championship game.

Along with his college coaching career, Korn has had several coaching stints at the club level. While in Ohio, Korn was the boys director of coaching for the Ohio Galaxy.  While in charge he led the U15 Galaxy boys to first place in USYS National League. He was the high school age director of coaching and head coach of the Colorado Fusion Soccer Club from 2008-10, leading the team to the U17 Colorado State Cup finals. Korn was recognized as the Colorado youth Soccer Coach of the Year in 2010.

He also was the director of coaching at the Foothills Futbol Club, the second largest club in Southern Arizona, from 2006-07. At Foothills, he oversaw the implementation and education of more than 35 coaches.

While at Foothills, Korn also served as head coach and the director of sponsorship/fundraising at the Tucson Soccer Academy. Additionally, Korn was an assistant varsity coach and junior varsity head coach at Salpointe Catholic (Ariz.) High School, where he helped guide the Lancers to the 5A State Finals.

Korn was the head coach for the Youth Olympic Girls Program (YOP) from 2004-06 and the Canyon Del Oro Soccer Club from 2001-05.
