Alicia Abbott was officially named an assistant coach for theSIUE softball program in June 2013.
Abbott joins the Cougars after spending last season as anassistant coach at Newberry (S.C.). She worked primarily with theinfielders and served as a hitting mentor for the Wolves. As thefirst assistant at Newberry, she was in charge of recruiting,scholarship allocation, scheduling, budget management, communityservice, equipment and apparel, and academic enrichment.
The Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year in 2008, Abbottstarted all 57 games as a freshman and hit .307 for the UIC Flames.She played two seasons with UIC before transferring to NorthCarolina State to finish out her collegiate career.
In four seasons, Abbott batted .283 and recorded 121 hits,including 20 doubles and eight home runs. The first baseman andoutfielder belted a career best four home runs during her seniorseason with the Wolfpack. Abbott was named to the Atlantic CoastConference Academic Honor Roll her final two seasons with NorthCarolina State and earned a bachelor's degree in communication(public and interpersonal) in 2011.
Abbott also served as a student assistant and volunteerassistant for North Carolina State during the 2012 season. At NorthCarolina State, she assisted with infielders and outfielders.Abbott, who served as the video coordinator for the team, gainedvaluable experience on an administrative level by assisting withscouting reports and the day-to-day operations of the program.
