Massengale, Ariel  WBB Women's Basketball team coaches staff 10-20-23

Former Tennessee standout player Ariel Massengale joined SIUE women's basketball as an Assistant Coach in July 2021.

On March 20, 2023, Massengale was honored on the Thirty Under 30 list by the by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. 

With Massengale on staff, SIUE has had a pair of All-OVC First Team selections in Gabby Nikitinaite in 2022 and Ajulu Thatha in 2023.

Massengale joins the SIUE staff after two seasons on staff at Lipscomb. The Bisons finished 12-10 in the pandemic-shortened season, falling in the semifinal of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.

Prior to her time at Lipscomb, she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Mississippi, assisting in scouting and recruiting.

The native of Bolingbrook, Illinois, was a McDonald’s All-American, a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-American at Bolingbrook High School, where she helped the Raiders to three IHSA State Championships. She was selected as Illinois Miss Basketball as well as the Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year.

Massengale earned four gold medals while playing for USA Basketball. She was part of the U16 FIBA America team, the U17 World Cup, the U19 World Championships and the World University Games.

The 29th overall pick in the 2015 WNBA draft by the Atlanta Dream, Massengale spent a season playing in Lapparenta, Finland. Massengale holds a bachelor’s in Sport Management from Tennessee and a master’s in Sport and Recreation Administration from Mississippi.
