Veronica Sheffey joined SIUE women's basketball as a graduate assistant coach in July 2026.
Sheffey, a native of Woodinville, Washington, comes to SIUE after completing her final playing season at TCU, where she helped the Horned Frogs to an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Championships.
She averaged 4.1 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Sheffey hit 13 three-pointers at TCU and was 38 of 45 from the free throw line.
Sheffey previously spent two seasons at San Diego and one season at San Diego State. She led San Diego State in scoring during the 2024-25 season, averaging 11.2 points per game and recoded 21 double-digit scoring efforts. The 2024-25 Mountain West Tournament Most Valuable Player, she led the Aztecs to a Mountain West Tournament title as well as the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth in more than a decade.
Sheffey’s family is deep into college athletics. Her father, Tyrone, and brother, Jaden, played college football at Washington. Her grandmother, Gloria Mercer, played college basketball at Seattle.
