After spending two years as a graduate assistant, Colton Susen joined the full-time staff in July 2020 as the Director of Basketball Performance. Susen originally joined the SIUE Athletic Performance staff in August 2018.
Susen's focus will be on the men's and women's basketball teams.
Prior to SIUE, Susen served professional internships with the University of Michigan Strength and Conditioning in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the University of Wisconsin Strength and Conditioning in Madison, Wisconsin.
He previously was the head strength and conditioning coordinator and assistant coach at LaCrosse Central High School. He was responsible for constructing and implementing an effective strength and conditioning program for preseason and in-season workouts for the program's student-athletes.
Susen also worked as a fitness specialist and personal trainer at Viterbo University.
A certified strength and conditioning specialist and personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, he holds certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED with the American Red Cross. He serves as a Trained Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through the United States of America Weight Lifting (USAW). He also is a Certified Sport Nutrition Coach (CSNC) and holds a PRRT (primal reflexive reset technique) certification from the National Sport Performance Association.
A 2017 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in exercise sports science, he received his master's degree from SIUE in 2020.
