Hassaan Stamps became an SIUE assistant coach for the SIUE men'sand women's track and field program in July 2010.
His coaching career took an interesting turn in 2012 culminatingwith an appearance at the Summer Olympic Games of London. Stampswas named the National Team Coach for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabiawhere he led the program at the 2012 World Junior Championships aswell as the London Games. He took a sabbatical from SIUE to developand recruit Saudi Arabia's top junior athletes while coachingelite-level athletes.
Stamps holds a varied and experienced coaching resume. He hasbeen an assistant coach most at Florida International University.His experience also includes stints at the University of Miami, theUniversity of Vermont, and Cal State University Los Angeles.
As the recruiting coordinator at Florida International, Stampshelped gather one of the largest and strongest incoming classes inschool history. He also helped coach the school's pentathlon andheptathlon school record holder. Stamps coached three All-AtlanticCoast Conference performers at Miami.
He helped Vermont to 17 school records in 2007. While atCal State, he oversaw 14 All-Americans, including a nationalchampion.
His coaching career began after a stellar collegiate career atthe University of Tennessee. He earned five All-Americancertificates and helped the Vols to the 2001 NCAA Division IOutdoor Championships and the 2002 NCAA Division I IndoorChampionships. Tennessee also won back-to-back outdoor SoutheasternConference (SEC) titles in 2001 and 2002 with Stamps as a teamcaptain.
A four-time All-SEC selection and Academic All-SEC honoree,Stamps earned a bachelor's degree with a double major in sportsmanagement and psychology from Tennessee in 2003.
He is a USA Track and Field Level I Certified Coach and a USATFLevel II Certified Coach for jumps, sprints, hurdles andmulti-events. From 2007 to 2009, he was a jumps coach for thejunior national team in Canada. Stamps also is a USATF Level I ITC(Instructor Training Course).
