Smith joins the SIUE women's basketball program after spending the past four seasons on the coaching staff at UIC.
She helped the Flames to three consecutive postseason appearances. UIC won 66 games with Smith on staff, including 19 wins during 2022-23 season, tying for the school record in wins.
Smith previously spent two seasons as the video coordinator for DePaul Head Coach Doug Bruno. The Blue Demons competed in the postseason in both of Smith's seasons at DePaul, including at an-large NCAA Tournament bid.
As a player, Smith starred at DePaul from 2004-08, where she played along side Coach Sam Quigley-Smith and her sister, three-time WNBA All-Star and 2022 WNBA champion Allie Quigley. The Blue Demons appeared in four NCAA tournaments during Caprice Smith's career, including the team's first Sweet 16 appearance in 2005-06. Caprice Smith was an All-Big East honoree in 2007. She scored 1,199 points in her Blue Demon career and is among the program's all-time leaders in games played (129), and rebounds (712). She was a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in 2004-05 and a three-time Big East All-Academic Team member.
Before returning to DePaul as a coach, Smith spent 11 years as an assistant coach at the legendary Montini High School. Montini captured four state championships in nine appearances to the state finals during her tenure. Smith was also a valued teacher and counselor at Montini while coordinating the team's video and social media.
Smith graduated from DePaul in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in communications, concentrating in TV, radio and film.
