Matt Cannady

Belleville, Illinois, native Matt Cannady joined the SIUE men's soccer staff as an assistant coach in May 2020.

Cannady came to SIUE following five seasons as a full-time assistant at VCU.

With Cannady on staff, VCU as earned numerous top 25 victories and multiple Atlantic 10 Championship appearances, highlighted by a No. 16 National seed and a double bye in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

After a playing career at Bellarmine, which included two seasons in the same conference as SIUE, Cannady began his career at VCU as a graduate assistant in 2010.

Cannady was elevated to a volunteer assistant position at VCU for two seasons 2011-2012, before returning to his alma mater as an assistant for the Knights. Bellarmine appeared in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in each of the two seasons with Cannady on staff. He returned to VCU in 2015.

Before his college career, Cannady played at Althoff Catholic high school in Belleville and for Metro United which is now St. Louis Scott Gallagher Illinois.

Cannady earned his bachelor's from Bellarmine in 2010 and a master's from VCU in 2011. He and his wife Jamie have two daughters, Morgan and Madison and a golden retriever named Riley.
