EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's basketball Head Coach Brian Barone continues to build his roster for the 2026-27 announcing the addition of Dorea "Kain" McCaskill (St. Louis).
McCaskill is a 6-foot, 2-inch, 170-pound guard who comes to SIUE from Vashon high school in St. Louis. McCaskill is the younger brother of current SIUE freshman Dehrio McCaskill.
"Kain is a dynamic guard that thrives on energy," Barone said. "He can impact every play on both ends of the court. He has tremendous athleticism with an ability to get to the rim and score."
As a junior at Vashon, McCaskill averaged 7.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 58.9 percent from the field overall and knocked down 71 percent of his free throw attempts.
"Picking SIUE was bigger than just basketball," McCaskill said. "My big brother Dehrio is there, and seeing him grow and do well made it feel like the right move for me as well. We always talked about playing together and pushing each other, so getting that chance means a lot. Coach Barone and the staff showed real love from the start, and the style of play fits me. I know I'll be able to contribute and keep getting better. I'm proud to represent my family, Vashon, and St. Louis and I'm ready for what's next."
"We are looking forward to another local talent coming into our program to impact us in a positive way," Barone added. "With his brother already being on the team, he understands the culture and our family atmosphere."
McCaskill joins transfer David Wilson, announced earlier Thursday, as part of the 2026-27 recruiting class.
The Cougars are 2-1 to start the season and will face Drake in a Friday night contest. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
