SIUE Softball Blanks Indianapolis Twice

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Strong pitching performances by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Dawn Farmer (Columbia) and Missy Koenig (Mapleton) keyed a doubleheader sweep of the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds.
         Farmer pitched seven innings in a 1-0 win in the first game for the Cougars, 13-7 overall and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Koenig followed by giving up one hit in seven shutout innings in a 6-0 win in game two.
         Koenig and Farmer both improved their record to 4-3.
         The lone run in the first game came in the third inning. Erin Newman's (Fairfield, Cal.) double off the fence in left field drove in Katie Waldo (Peoria) to give the Cougars the lead. Farmer took care of the rest by striking out five and scattering five hits.
         In the nightcap, the Cougars got on the board early when Newman's single drove in Jenny Esker (Steeleville) from second. On the day, Newman was 4-for-7 with a double and three RBIs. The Cougars added three runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.
         Koenig struck out four and gave up a hit in the top of the sixth inning.
